Echinacea purpurea root, also called purple coneflower, is one of the most popular herbs worldwide. Today, it’s best known as an over-the-counter herbal remedy for the common cold or flu. However, it’s also used to treat pain, inflammation, migraines, and other health issues.

Echinacea plants are loaded with plant compounds that function as antioxidants. Antioxidants are molecules that help defend your cells against oxidative stress, a state that has been linked to chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and many others. Echinacea has been shown to improve immunity, blood sugar, anxiety, inflammation and skin health. It may even have anti-cancer properties. It’s considered safe and well tolerated for short-term use. Echinacea is widely used as a dietary supplement to boost the immune system and prevent or treat the common cold and other respiratory infections. Echinacea was used for cold prevention by Native American tribes who lived in the area of South Dakota. It is used to stimulate certain white blood cells and has anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties.  Good for the immune system and the lymphatic system. Useful for colic, colds, flu, and other infectious illnesses.

Caution:  Should not be used by those who are allergic to plants in the sunflower family.
